One question I get quite frequently is: ‘My dog needs a low protein diet – what raw meals can I feed?’
Low protein diets are frequently recommended for liver and kidney issues.
Protein contains essential amino acids that are necessary for health and healing. Your pet’s body needs these essential nutrients, even when it’s having health problems. Reducing the amount of protein in the diet can lead the body to metabolize its own muscle mass to obtain these nutrients.
Raw meat is actually 70% water so it’s actually not as high in protein as you would think – it is much easier for the body to metabolize than protein in dry food (10% moisture).
The QUALITY of the protein is more important than the quantity.
