Jax

When we first got Jax, we quickly realised that he was a very sensitive cat. He has always been quite anxious and easily unsettled, so we tried to keep his routine as calm and consistent as possible. One of the biggest challenges, though, was finding food that agreed with him.
We had been feeding him more traditional processed cat food, and unfortunately it didn’t seem to suit him very well. Every so often he would vomit after eating, which was obviously worrying to see. It also made me nervous about what we were putting in his bowl. As any cat owner will know, when your cat isn’t well, even something as ordinary as mealtime can suddenly become a source of stress.
Because Jax was already an anxious cat, we wanted to find a food that would hopefully be gentler for him while still being something he actually enjoyed eating. We started looking into alternatives and came across LUNA & me.
I was initially cautious about changing his food. With a cat as sensitive as Jax, you don't want to make changes too quickly, and we knew that introducing a new food needed to be done gradually. We slowly incorporated LUNA & me into his routine and paid close attention to how he responded.
The first thing we noticed was how interested he was in the food. Jax can be quite particular, so seeing him approach his bowl with enthusiasm was a really encouraging start. More importantly, as we continued with the new food, we felt that his meals became a much more settled part of his day.
Over time, we noticed that the vomiting episodes we had been concerned about were no longer happening in the same way. Obviously, I wouldn't say that food alone can solve every digestive problem, and if Jax ever became unwell again, we would absolutely speak to our vet. But from our own experience, changing his diet seemed to make a positive difference to his day-to-day wellbeing.
I also think the consistency has been particularly helpful for Jax because of his anxious personality. He thrives on having familiar routines, and mealtimes have become something predictable that he can rely on. Rather than worrying every time he eats, I feel much more comfortable watching him enjoy his food and carry on with his day.
There is something surprisingly reassuring about seeing your cat finish a meal and then simply go about being a cat. Jax will eat, settle down and return to his usual routine, rather than leaving us wondering whether his food is going to upset him.
His personality hasn't suddenly changed — he's still our anxious, slightly dramatic boy! — but having food that seems to agree with him has taken away one of the things we used to worry about. We can focus more on keeping him comfortable, giving him plenty of attention and making sure he has the calm environment he needs.
What I particularly like about LUNA & me is that choosing his food feels like part of taking a more thoughtful approach to his overall health. Obviously, diet is only one part of keeping a cat healthy, alongside fresh water, exercise, enrichment, regular check-ups and plenty of love. But it is an important part, and finding something that Jax enjoys and appears to tolerate well has given us much more confidence in his daily routine.
Looking back, I wish we had found LUNA & me sooner. Seeing Jax enjoy his meals without the same worries we had before has been a huge relief. For an anxious cat like him, small improvements in his routine can make a surprisingly big difference.
Jax is still Jax — nervous, fussy and full of personality — but he is a happier boy at mealtimes, and that makes us happy too. For us, LUNA & me has become a simple but important part of looking after him, and I'm really pleased we decided to give it a try.
