Joey

Joey is my beautiful tuxedo boy. He’s the cat equivalent of a Border Collie - street smart, plays fetch, and goes for long walks, no leash. He had been happy and healthy on a steady diet of Republic of Cats for 10 years. But last Christmas, a diagnosis of urinary crystals turned our world upside down.

The vet recommended Royal Canin, and I watched my boy become heavy and tense, constantly ravenous, and drinking an abnormal amount of water. Soon after, digestive issues followed, and I finally looked at the label and saw the truth: fillers, sodium, and a starvation-level protein count. I was feeding him the very things that were making him sick, yet I was told it was normal.

I researched better quality specialised food and turned to Farmina Urinary with quinoa and cranberry, hoping this would fix it, but he wouldn't touch their pâtés. There is nothing worse in this world than seeing your baby refusing to eat! In my desperation, I turned to home-cooking, only to realise that without the complex science of taurine and calcium balance, I was guessing with his life.

We tried returning to his old routine with Republic of Cats. I decided to dilute the cans with water in hopes of seeing him happy, but the spark was gone - he was lethargic, a shadow of himself. Then came KatKin. It was cleaner, yes, but his coat dulled, leaving me feeling completely defeated and out of options.

The breakthrough happened in the kitchen. I was preparing a raw steak, and for the first time in months, Joey was curious, vibrant, and alive. He didn't just want it - he craved it. That was my signal.

We just finished our first welcome box, and what a transformation! Joey is full of energy, he plays much more often, even during the night - a sound I haven't heard since he was a kitten.

He is calmer in his demeanour, sleeps deeper, and his fur has much more fullness. I discovered his absolute favourite is beef and duck - no surprise there, given his refined taste.
